Initial Thoughts: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

by

With The Witcher 3 coming out, I finally decided to start playing 2. I’m only a few hours into it but I’m enjoying my time so far. It’s frequently on sale http://store.steampowered.com/app/20920/

The Witcher 2 Gameplay

The Witcher 2 gameplay is… interesting? The combat  is both fun and hard. Fighting a group of enemies proves to be difficult early game when they swarm around you. They changed a good bit of it from the first installment in the series, combat being one aspect. Instead of the more rhythmic fighting style in the first they went for a more fast-paced perfect-timing combo kinda combat system. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad yet.

They added a lot to the gameplay side of the house and it may be a bit to take in at first. With the changes to Signs, Magic and player abilities I was a little confused as to where I should start with my “points”. I’m sure it will make more sense later in the game.

Some of the additions I’m most excited for are the addition of traps, bombs and the like. I’m hoping they are actually useful later in the game.

The Witcher 2 Environment

I’ve always thought The Witcher environment was a lot of fun to experience. The world of The Witcher never really seemed lacking to me. Every area felt like there was real time spent making it unique. The Witcher 2 is no different, so far.

The Witcher 2 Dislikes

I’m not a huge fan of the new combat style yet. It may very well grow on me though. Sometimes the menus feel a little clunky, as well.
